Fill ‘er Up!

Daily Prompt: The Glass

Is the glass half-full, or half-empty?

I’ve often been accused of having a negative outlook on life. I do not agree. I would rather think of myself as enlightened. I do not view a glass as half empty nor is it half full.. it is simply a glass that has room in it for more. I am sure there are strong arguments for either side, but really, what is the point?

If you are a negative sort, you may find yourself sitting around wasting your life and your time, waiting for the “other shoe to drop” never really knowing if it ever will. It’s not hard to see the negatives in every aspect of our lives. Hell, it’s all around us all the time if we just open our eyes and look. All the needless shootings and killings. They are indeed senseless, but is that any reason to view every aspect of our lives in the same light? I think not. We’ve all gone through bad times.. it’s how we handle them that defines us as a human being.
On the other side of the proverbial coin, we have the perky little positives who are always upbeat, with their sunshine smiles and bright dispositions who see the good in everything regardless of how bad it really is. The glass isn’t just half full.. it’s also full of gold coins and the flowers pulled out of their asses. That may be a little harsh, but no less true. A little dose of reality couldn’t hurt.

Myself.. I prefer to live my life with a “wait and see” attitude. That way I never know what is coming. There is something to be said for being spontaneous. What do you think?

  1. I’m wth you! I’m not unrelentingly negative, nor am I unceasingly upbeat…it depends on the situation really. I worry that some positive psychology tends to blame the victim when things go wrong..and sometimes they just do, crap happens, and its not the person suffering who is at fault. On the other hand, sometimes we can be so negative we do bring out the worst in a situation. So like you I think it’s best to try to be neutral, see what happens, then make the best of it. šŸ™‚

  2. I, too, feel a bit neutral in grneral and find it to be a joyful place to be. My experience of anything – person, place or event, is mine to have; not defined or judged by someone else.
