Vacant Promises

Another poem in my dysfunctional family series…

your promises are vacant
every word you speak a lie
there is no trust between us
I’m left to wonder why

your eyes are blank and empty
your soul as black as coal
talking to you is pointless
you’re clearly a heartless troll

you’re treacherous and distorted
leaving pain in your wake
the truth a bent fact
my faith in you a mistake

I don’t know why I waste my time
seriously you’re not worth it
I listen to your twisted tales
as I fight the urge to vomit

if only you meant a single syllable
that fell loosely from your lips
I might feel less inclined
to flee this sinking ship

what I’m struggling to say
shouldn’t be this hard
spilling out this poem
knowing you’ve left me scarred.
